National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has expressed his disappointment in Black Stars of Ghana following their 2-2 draw with Egypt in ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) championship in Ivory Coast.

Ghana’s 2-2 draw with Egypt on Thursday leaves them without a win after two games in the 2023 AFCON.

In their match against the Pharaohs, the Black Stars blew a great opportunity to take the lead in Group B due to defensive errors.

After making it into the starting lineup despite missing a late fitness test, Mohammed Kudus appeared destined to give Ghana the victory.

Even though the West Ham player scored twice, his efforts were insufficient as Egypt twice overcame a goal deficit to earn a draw, thanks to goals from Mostafa Mohamed and Omar Marmoush.

After this, Mr. John Mahama who watched the game took to his X (formerly Twitter) platform to lament on Black Stars poor defending.

According to him, Ghana gifted two free goals to Egypt. However, the former president was full of praise for Black Stars starboy Mohammed Kudus.

His tweet read, “Boy wonder, Kudus. Great game! We gave away 2 free goals!“

    Boy wonder, Kudus.
    Great game!
We gave away 2 free goals!

Hours before the game started, Mahama tweeted that he has been advised to eat dinner before watching Ghana take on the Pharaohs.

Despite Ghana’s poor start in the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, he was optimistic the Black Stars will bounce back and perform well in the subsequent games.

As an avid Black Stars supporter, I've been advised to eat dinner! I've done that and seated in my favourite chair, waiting for our game against #Egypt. I haven't given up on the Black Stars. They always have a shaky start but get going when it gets tough. #GoBlackStars

Following their defeat to Cape Verde in their opening match, Chris Hughton made three changes to his starting lineup for the match against Egypt.

In the starting lineup, Baba Iddrisu, Joseph Paintsil, and Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer were replaced by Kudus, Inaki Williams, and Abdul Salis Samed.

But Richard Ofori stayed in between the sticks, with Denis Odoi, Gideon Mensah, Mohammed Salisu, and Alexander Djiku forming the back four.

Majeed Ashimeru once again started as the box-to-box midfielder, while Salis Samed also made a comeback to anchor the defensive midfield position.
