Ghana coach Chris Hughton has confirmed that West Ham midfielder Mohammed Kudus is likely to join his teammates for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) late due to a minor injury. However, he anticipates him joining the team in a few days.
The midfielder was named in Ghana’s 27-man squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), announced on Monday, January 1, 2024.
Kudus has been in superb form for his club this season. He was unable to join the Black Stars squad that traveled to advance to the AFCON 2023 to continue their preparations for the crucial encounter.
Hughton said he was hopeful that Kudus would recover shortly and join his teammates in time.
“Kudus has a minor injury that will keep him out of the first leg, but we expect him to join us in a few days. He is a vital player for us, and we will miss him, but we have other quality players who can fill in his role. We are confident that we have enough depth and talent to surmount this challenge,” he said.
