MAKOSA ‘79 MARKS HALF CENTURY OF FRIENDSHIP

The 1979 year group of the Manya Krobo Senior High School Old Students Association (MAKOSA) on Saturday 16th August converged at the school’s old site at Odumase Krobo to socialize and reflect on the 51 long years that destiny had brought them together as classmates.

Even though they officially passed out from the school (graduated) in July, 1979, the group was admitted to MAKROSEC in August, 1974. They have since maintained that bond of friendship and togetherness, growing stronger each year.

At the old school premises, members took time to tour nearly every classroom, cubicle and dormitory that housed them during the five years of tutelage (from 1974 to 1979), taking group photos and recollecting with nostalgia their ‘Homos Night’ experiences in 1974, the emergence of ‘Mountaineers’ Fan Club in 1976, the formation of ‘Fantomas Five’ Resistance Group in 1977, up to how they finally metamorphosed in 1979 into becoming one of the most formidable batches in the history of MAKROSEC.

On Sunday 17th August, the group attended a thanksgiving service at the Zimmerman Presbyterian Church to thank God for all their surviving and departed members. At the church service, activities reached a crescendo when the’79 group was called to the front of the congregation to showcase their Presbyterian upbringing by singing from PHB 34 and Doxology 709.
The theme of the day’s solemn service was: ‘Knowing The Times’.

After the thanksgiving service, the programme was climaxed with a grand get-together (dinning, winning and dancing) at the Havana Hotel & Social Centre at Somanya. Having been on record as the pacesetters in successfully hosting the maiden MAKOSA Annual Homecoming, last week’s programme is seen as yet another landmark event.

Members of the ‘79 year group, who are in the diaspora, have promised to come home for the next thanksgiving/dinner slated for September 2026.
