      • Governor Whitmer signed legislation to decriminalize paid surrogacy contracts in Michigan, also ending the state’s status as the only one where such contracts were illegal.

    Career Life

    Gretchen Whitmer entered politics in the early 2000s. In 2000, she was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives, representing the 69th district.

    During her tenure in the House, she focused on issues such as education funding, healthcare, and environmental protection. In 2006, Whitmer won a special election to the Michigan Senate. As a senator, she also continued advocating for healthcare access, women’s rights, and economic development.

    She served as the Minority Leader from 2011 to 2015, also leading the Democratic caucus. In 2018, Gretchen Whitmer ran for the position of Governor of Michigan.
