According to the Ministry of Transport, Kotoka International Airport’s (KIA) terminal 3’s Christmas trees and decorations cost a total of GH128,366.
In an appearance before Parliament to answer questions, the sector minister, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, stated that DDP Outdoor Services Limited contributed GH50,000 in the form of sponsorship out of the total amount of GH128,366.
He said: The Christmas decoration at the Kotoka International Airport for 2021 was rented from a company and the total cost of the decoration was GH¢128,366, out of which GH¢50,000 was paid by DDP in terms of sponsorship.”
Earlier, the Transport Ministry said, “there was no procurement nor bidding process for the award of contract” to purchase Christmas trees during the Yuletide.
However, Paul Adom-Otchere, the board chairman of the Ghana Airport Company, denied claims that the business spent GH84,000 on four Christmas trees over the holiday season.
According to a Facebook user, the business allegedly paid GH84,000 for the trees but failed to pay its employees’ wages on time.
The claims, according to Paul Adom Otchere, are false, he wrote in a Facebook post.

He insisted that the company actually paid Gh34,000 and received a “heavy discount” for the trees.
“The beautiful Christmas tree standing at Terminal 3 and 3 others altogether cost GH¢34,000, which was graciously provided by Jandel Limited at a heavy discount. (We thank Jandel Limited).
“The other inspirations were provided by Favors and Arts for a total cost of GH¢84,000 out of which GH¢50,000 was obtained via sponsorship,” he stated.
In order to create a festive atmosphere for travelers and their families entering the country, he said that the GACL has mounted Christmas-themed decorations around the terminal area for many years. This is not the first time.
