Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has admitted that he was a victim of juju in the military but that he would not die because he is a proud Bono from Dormaa Ahenkro.

The Army Chief stated he won’t back down in a speech to his troops in response to accusations made against the Major General, who has recently been the focus of controversy.

Oppong Peprah’s refusal to step down after serving his term is allegedly preventing a reorganization within the military leadership.

President Akufo-Addo appointed Major General Oppong-Peprah to the post on February 12, 2020, with effect from February 18, 2020. Major General William Azure Ayamdo was replaced by Major General Oppong-Peprah.

It is reported that Oppong Peprah will turn four years old next month as Army Commander.

Notably, Major Generals Richard Opoku Adusei, Joseph Narh Adinkra, Samuel Odotei, William Azure Ayamdo, and Clayton Boanuba Yaache were replaced without delay after their fixed terms were up.

But there was a strange development regarding Major General Oppong-Peprah. Although his official term ended on February 18, 2023, he has been in office for almost four years, which has caused both current and former military officers to express concern.

A few of them, his seniors, had been dispatched to Ghana’s foreign missions as Defense Attachés in order to elevate him to the rank of Army Commander.

However, in response, Maj. Gen. Oppong-Peprah claimed that his position as Army Chief had made him a victim of juju.

“A publication was sent to me. They call it opera news or something. I have been taken to juju people and all that and we have pictures of it. One of the military police brought it to me.” He said in an address to troops.

“I am still standing here. I am not dead and I will not die. If you cannot cope up with what I do, sit down and zip up. They claim I am an Akyem but I am a Bono I am very proud from Dormaa Ahenkoro. we speak the b3b3 I love it” He added.

According to reports, the Army Chief is opposing any potential changes to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) leadership because Oppong Peprah is not willing to take over as CDS in lieu of Seth Amoama, whose retirement is rumored to be approaching.

Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), is reportedly “enjoying” his role as COAS and is declining the CDS position.

All of his predecessors as Chief of Army Staff left their positions after serving the required three-year terms.

His ties to President Nana Akufo-Addo‘s family is cited by some as evidence of his political influence, while others point to financial motivations and the significant amount of unreported money that passes through the COAS office.
