The lone survivor of the infamous Deadly Voyage stowaway tale in 1992, Kinsley Ofosu, has been detained on suspicion of taking part in a €120,000 scam.
In 1992, Kinsley Ofosu made headlines around the world for surviving a stowaway trip miraculously.
After nearly 25 years of tenacious pursuit, Ofosu is said to have been apprehended from a hideout in Prampram, Greater Accra, according to the police.
Ofosu was detained on October 14th, and he was then brought before Takoradi Circuit Court B for arraignment.
Inspector Robert Yawson, who was prosecuting, informed the Henrietta Charway-presiding court that the suspect had been on the police’s wanted list since 1998.
On Saturday, October 14, Ofosu was taken into custody by the police after nearly 25 years of nonstop work. He continued by saying that all attempts to have him arrested had failed.
In order to allow the police to complete their inquiries, the prosecution asked the court to remand the suspect.

The prosecution claims that the suspect left his home in Tanokrom, a suburb of Takoradi, and moved to an unidentified location, making it difficult for the police to find him.
He prayed for a remand because he claimed that if the suspect were given bail, it might compromise the investigations. Victor Owusu, the accused’s attorney, pleaded unsuccessfully for his client to be granted bail.
Thus, Kingsley Ofosu has been remanded to police custody with a Monday, October 30, 2023 court date set for his next appearance.
Charles Ohemeng, the complainant who is based in Germany, claims he met the suspect there in 1997 after he gained international attention for his incredible escape from the MC Ruby Cargo Ship.
The complainant claims that after consulting with Kingsley Ofosu, he decided to ship some cars and printing presses to Ghana.
He claims he spent approximately 240,000 deutschmark (roughly 120,000 euros) at the time to purchase a Mercedes Benz, a tanker, a Nissan, a double axle vehicle, an Opel, printing machines, and many other items.
Everything came to an end after the vehicles and other items he claimed were shipped to Ofosu in Ghana. He claimed he was silent for a while before his arrest on Saturday.
