In the Ashanti Region, some supporters of John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen and Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, one of the NPP’s flagbearer candidates, have openly stated their support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

On Sunday, October 15, 2023, supporters of Alan Kyeremanten and Kennedy Agyapong defected to Dr. Bawumia’s side and pledged their unwavering support in a press conference.

They can be heard singing Bawumia’s praises and yelling “It’s Possible” in a viral video under the leadership of Dawuda Afriyie, the First Vice Chairman of the Offinso North Constituency.

The importance of Dr. Bawumia was emphasized by Adul Aziz Ismail, also known as Kennedy Ba, and a polling station executive at Kwaman Methodist in the Afigya Kwabre North Constituency.

He said “We are looking for a winnable flagbearer for the 2024 polls. Some of our MPs and Executives have come under severe attacks over their choice of their preferred candidates. The Majority Leader who has been an MP for several years knows the best candidate to be flagbearer and settled on the Vice President as the best candidate. Our father Kan Dapaah believes Bawumia is the obvious choice and we have bought into their idea. As a result, we have resolved to support the Vice President.”

He said that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the best candidate to lead the NPP in 2024, indicating that the decision was made without any incentives or consideration of personal gain but rather for the benefit of the NPP as a whole.

On his part, Dawuda Afriyie, an ardent supporter of Alan Kyeremanten in the Ashanti Region, lamented the behavior of the resigned NPP member and expressed his disappointment.

He was extremely disappointed in Kyerematen for what he perceived to be a major betrayal.
