Prior to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Sports Ministry lavished an astounding GH142,426, 907.36 million on the Senior National Teams, the Black Stars and the Black Queens.
According to a document obtained by insightnewsgh.com, the Sports Ministry allotted GH8,183,400,000,000 for the two-leg World Cup qualifier between Ghana and Nigeria.
Following their victory over Nigeria in Abuja on penalties, the Black Stars earned a spot in the World Cup in Qatar.
A total of GH 63,019,369.62 million was made available as funding for the Black Stars’ participation in the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, while an extra GH 8,009,366.40 was made available to cover the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation’s FIFA rights fee.
A total of GH57, 224, 301.74 million was also made available by the Sports Ministry as funding to assist the Black Stars in Qatar.
After losing to Portugal and Uruguay in the group rounds of the World Cup event in Qatar, Ghana’s Black Stars were eliminated from the competition.
Argentina, headed by Lionel Messi, won the tournament, although the senior national team was able to defeat South Korea in their second group game.
Prior to the World Cup, Mustapha Ussif, the minister of youth and sports, disclosed a $14.1 million budget for the Black Stars’ World Cup participation.
Ghana will spend $8.1 million on the group stages, he did say.
Mr. Ussif claims that the payment will rise in accordance with the Black Stars’ progress through the Mundial.
He said on the House of Commons floor, “Our group stage appearance would cost us an estimated $8,166,200.00.”
