Fear and panic swept through passengers of a Sprinter bus when armed robbers attacked them on the Sunyani Road in the Ashanti Region.

The attack happened around 1:00 a.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025, between Tweapease and Mfensi, close to the Moments of Glory Prayer Army (MOGPA).

The vehicle, with registration number GG 4181-16, was on its way to Kumasi when five armed men suddenly blocked the road.

According to news reports, the attackers ordered the driver to stop, then stormed the bus with guns drawn. About 20 passengers on board were commanded to hand over their belongings. Money, mobile phones, and other valuables were collected while the frightened travelers sat in silence.

Effah Samuel, one of the passengers on the journey, detailed the distressing experience to Citi News.

“It all happened so fast. They came out of nowhere, pointing guns at us and shouting for us to give them everything we had. We were terrified,” he said.

Although no lives were lost, the passengers were left shaken by the ordeal. Some broke into tears after the ordeal, grateful to be alive but distressed by the trauma of the night.

Police have been urged to ramp up patrols and enhance security measures in vulnerable areas, particularly during nighttime hours when incidents tend to escalate

Residents and commuters say this is not an isolated incident. They have long complained that the poor state of the road encourages crime. The stretch is riddled with potholes, forcing vehicles to slow down and making them easy targets for robbers.

This latest incident has renewed demands for urgent government action. Locals are calling for swift repairs to the road and stronger police patrols, especially at night. Without such steps, many fear the Sunyani Road will remain a dangerous route for travelers.
