The UTV studio has released CCTV footage that captures the intrusion of hooligans during the live broadcast of the entertainment analysis show, United Showbiz, on October 7.
The incident involved a group of individuals who entered the studio with hostile intentions, causing chaos and disrupting the ongoing live production. As a result, the live telecast was suspended.
It has been brought to our attention that certain individuals trespassed onto the premises and physically assaulted two technical staff members upon entering the studios. The incident occurred during the production of the United Showbiz program on UTV.
On October 14, UTV released CCTV footage which revealed that the producer, Isaac, and the head of the camera were subjected to physical violence by the intruders.
The footage depicts Isaac approaching the group in a corridor and attempting to engage them in conversation, but was met with violent resistance. Similarly, the head of the camera was also subjected to physical assault when he encountered the intruders in the same corridor.
Civil society organizations denounced the attack, and social media users strongly condemned the violent incident.
Previous to this, the NPP had voiced concerns about the show because many of its panelists were government critics. The party requested program reform in writing to the organization.
Nonetheless, there was a lot of backlash to this letter, with many people seeing it as an infringement on the operations and rights of the media. This controversy is thought to have served as the impetus for the October 7 attack on the studio panelists.
