Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has given an assurance to the Ghanaian public and economic stakeholders that the Cedi’s new strength and appreciation against the US dollar and other global trading currencies is sustainable and has been achieved mainly through the transformative activities of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod). The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has revealed that a huge majority of foreign street beggars arrested in the ongoing national operation are from Niger. Out of 2,244 people detained so far, 2,073, more than 92 percent, are Nigeriens. This was confirmed in a press release issued by the GIS on May 19, 2025. Members of the Minority Caucus serving on the Energy Committee in Parliament have called for an immediate halt to the planned increase in utility tariffs.
