A group in the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) by name NPP PATRIOTIC FRONTLINERS has condemned an open endorsement by the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Bosiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi. Professor at the University of Ghana, Ransford Yaw Gyampo is not happy with a directive from the Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum with regards to the margin by which fees of the University are increased for the 2022/2023 academic year. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced Saturday, May 6, 2023, to elect a flagbearer and parliamentary candidates for various constituencies ahead of the 2024 general elections. The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has called for a total reform in the implementation of the Value Added Tax (VAT) to enhance compliance. GATU’s call follows the implementation of the increase in the VAT rate from 12.5% to 15% effective January 1, 2023. Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta had indicated that the increase is expected to yield GH¢2.70 billion, which will be used to augment funding for road infrastructure development. A third of the global economy will be in recession this year, the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has warned. Kristalina Georgieva said 2023 will be “tougher” than last year as the US, EU and China see their economies slow. It comes as the war in Ukraine, rising prices, higher interest rates and the spread of Covid in China weigh on the global economy. The National Sports Authority is open to the possibility of renaming a stadium in Ghana after the football legend, Pele, who passed away aged 82. This is according to the Director General of the Authority, Professor Peter Twumasi.
