The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture has distributed 22,510 inputs to fishermen since assuming office. The inputs include 6,652 outboard motors, 6,148 fishing nets, 6,000 wire mesh, and 3,710 freezers. These beneficiaries are fishers and fish processors in coastal communities and those around the Volta Lake. The national leadership of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has been given three days to end the current strike they have embarked on by a group of members of the organization who describe themselves as “Silent Majority” in respect to the fight against illegal mining, commonly called galamsey. The Ghana Police Service has named Salifu Amoako as the suspect behind the gory accident that occurred over the weekend at East Legon in the capital city of the country, leading to the death of two innocent persons. The Ghana Army, on Thursday October 10, pitched camp at the banks of the Birim River in the Eastern Region as part of heightened efforts to flush out illegal miners and their activities.
