The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has called for a total reform in the implementation of the Value Added Tax (VAT) to enhance compliance. GATU’s call follows the implementation of the increase in the VAT rate from 12.5% to 15% effective January 1, 2023. Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta had indicated that the increase is expected to yield GH¢2.70 billion, which will be used to augment funding for road infrastructure development. A third of the global economy will be in recession this year, the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has warned. Kristalina Georgieva said 2023 will be “tougher” than last year as the US, EU and China see their economies slow. The National Sports Authority is open to the possibility of renaming a stadium in Ghana after the football legend, Pele, who passed away aged 82. This is according to the Director General of the Authority, Professor Peter Twumasi.
