The Sunon Asogli Thermal Plant has been closed, removing 560 megawatts (MW) of power from the national grid. The government’s debt to the power generator caused the plant to close. The independent power producer said in a letter to Pulse.com.gh that it had permanently closed its plant and was therefore suspending operations. It stated that the government’s failure to meet its financial obligations to the power plant’s management was the reason behind the decision.
