Some Ghanaians have expressed surprise at President Akufo-Addo’s choice to praise Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the recently-resigned Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, despite the fact that her resignation was controversial. An increase in the monthly stipend for National Service Scheme (NSS) Personnel has been announced by the NSS. According to a statement from the Corporate Affairs Directorate of the Scheme, the government has approved raising the allowance from Ghana cedi 559.04 to Ghana cedi 715.57 starting in January 2023. “All National Service Personnel who are currently in active service are entitled to arrears for the difference in the upward adjustment from January 2023, and would be paid accordingly.” the statement read. Two housekeepers of Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, and her husband, Daniel Osei Kuffour, are accused of stealing money and other items worth millions of Ghana Cedis from the couple’s home in Abelemkpe, Accra. They are being prosecuted before an Accra Circuit Court. The accused, Patience Botwe, 18, and Sarah Agyei, 30, are accused of stealing the couple’s money and possessions between July and October 2022.
