Dr. Twum Barima has informed Dr. George Akuffu Dampare, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), about the traditional chief who also works as a police officer.
The General Legal Counsel has also been asked to punish the Okper chief for bringing discredit to the legal profession given his background as a lawyer.
Recall that last weekend, Nene Nanekey Terkpertey Ofori Agor IX accused Dr. Richard Twum Barima of interfering in the fierce chieftaincy struggle in the region, encouraging and organizing acts of thuggery, and organizing attacks on rival chieftaincy factions.
Nene Nanekey Terkpertey Ofori Agor IX, the Divisional Chief of Okper in the Yilo Krobo Traditional Area, has angered the Eastern Regional First Vice Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Richard Twum Barima, by bringing up their chieftaincy issue.
The chief charged that Yilo Krobo, which is holding the residents of Somanya prisoner and preventing the Municipality from receiving its much-needed development, has been “disintegrating, destroying, also tearing apart and ravaging.”
Nene Agor accused Mr. Barimah of being the brains behind an attack on the youth of Okperpiem on November 15, 2021, which resulted in four injuries, citing other incidents the politician is accused of committing.
The regional first vice chairman, according to the chief, allegedly funded some traditional leaders to invade Okperpiem a few days ago in an effort to impose Asafoatse, Asafoatse Many, and a few youth leaders inside the enclave.
He attributed the ongoing acts of lawlessness to the Somanya police’s inaction in response to the numerous reports made to them regarding these instances.
Twum Barimah is the mastermind behind the Konor chieftaincy troubles at Sra, according to Nene Agor, who also accused him of instigating confrontations in other chieftaincy issues in Yilo Krobo despite not being a native of the area.
In addition, Nene Agor vowed to organize a protest against the lawmaker if he did not stop engaging in illegal activity in the Okper region.
However, the Yilo Klo constituency chairman, Alhaji Teye Abubakar, refuted the claims made against Mr. Twum Barimah in a news release, denouncing the chief’s xenophobic attack and unfounded allegations against the lawmaker.
“Mr. Twum is from Plau Wetso and not Okpeh Wetso, so how can he be involved in the chieftaincy issues in Okpeh and Sra?” portions of the statement queried.
It added that, “As a police officer and a lawyer, we expect Dennis Yao Terkpetey, aka Tukpe, to follow due process by initiating legal processes to deal with all of the claims he is making, rather than defaming Dr. Twum’s character and disparaging The NPP in Yilo. And it is on this basis that the Party in Yilo Klo will petition the General Legal Council and the IGP.”
“Dennis Yao Terkpetey, aka Tukpe, is aggrieved because his friends lost in the recent constituency elections and blame Dr. Twum for that,” the statement clarified.
“We are worried about the peace that Dennis Terkpetey Yao, aka Tukpe, wants to disturb in Yilo, using the chieftaincy as a decoy. We expect him to know better as a police officer and to stop this attitude, which undermines the very police institution in which he works. He must stay out of the party politics in Yilo Klo.
“We want to put it on record that the people of Yilo Klo are proud of Dr. Twum; they love and cherish him for the immense and numerous supports he has been giving to them in terms of youth and women’s empowerment, drilling boreholes, and providing corn mills to communities in Yilo Krobo. And as a party, we have advised Dr. Twum to seek redress in court for the defamatory statements made by Dennis Yao Terkepetey, aka Tukpe”.
