Actress Yvonne Nelson has received praise from John Dumelo for valuing their friendship and declining requests from some members of the Akufo-Addo-led government for her to challenge him for the parliamentary seat in Ayawaso West Wuogon.
Before the 2020 elections, some politicians allegedly attempted to pit Yvonne against him, but she displayed exceptional maturity.
“I remember @yvonnenelsongh called me sometime back before the 2020 elections to tell me someone extremely close to the current president had asked her to contest in Ayawaso West on the ticket of NPP. These were her words to me ‘John, I can’t do that to you, I told them no, I can’t throw away our many years friendship because of politics,’” Dumelo wrote on Twitter.
This comes after Yvonne revealed in her book “I Am Not Yvonne Nelson” that she was forced to have an abortion in 2010 because Sarkodie, the rapper who got her pregnant, asked her to.
She claimed that because Sarkodie was living with his mother at the time and was ill-equipped to assume paternal responsibilities, he refused to accept responsibility for the pregnancy.
The same memoir, which was released on Sunday, June 18, 2023, detailed how Yvonne received a call from a government official pleading with her to run for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency seat at the same time Dumelo was running for the position of People’s Representative on the National Democratic Congress ticket.
