The criminal case against James Gyakye Quayson, a former member of parliament for Assin North, has been revealed to not bother him.

He claimed that the high court’s decision to hear the case every day would not affect his chances of winning the election.

“If they want, they can do so by giving me a bed to sleep in the court to enable me to attend the court but the New Patriotic Party will lose the by-elections,” he said.

“They can further give me a chamber to sleep in the court but Assin North will fall to me,” he noted.

In response to the court’s decision to hear his perjury case daily, Mr. Quayson, who is also the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) candidate for the Assin North by-election scheduled for June 27, 2023, made these remarks.

Speaking on Accra-based Joy FM he said “They can share money ahead of the by-election but the people will vote against them.”

“I want to even disguise myself and collect some of the money and distribute it to the chiefs and people of the area,” he added.

Gyakye Quayson made comments about government initiatives for development that are allegedly intended to win over voters in the area.

He said that since the residents of the area deserve development, it is okay if the government is bringing it about as a result of the by-election.

The High Court decided that James Gyakye Quayson’s perjury and forgery trial would begin on a daily basis on Tuesday, June 20, 2023.

This comes after Quayson’s attorney Justin Terriwajjah’s request to have the trial continued after the Assin North by-election scheduled for June 27, 2023 was denied by the court presided over by Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh.
