Should he be elected president, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has stated his intentions to advance Ghana.
If Ghanaians give him the nod in the general elections of 2024, he says he intends to make Ghana the digital hub of Africa.
On Friday, June 16, Dr. Bawumia addressed ecstatic party supporters after submitting his presidential nomination form at the party’s headquarters in Accra. He pledged to improve the nation’s fortunes if elected.
He declared his desire to build on the solid foundation currently being maintained by the administration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
“I believe that it is time to move Ghana to the next level by building on the foundations we have put in place so far…Together with you, I want to see a Ghana where we leverage technology, data and systems for inclusive economic growth. I want to make Ghana the digital hub of Africa. I want us to bridge the digital divide and apply digital technology and artificial intelligence for the transformation of healthcare, education, and public service delivery amongst others”.
He further emphasized his 22-year journey, which included his time serving as the Bank of Ghana’s deputy governor under the Kufuor administration to the current administration, and his unwavering commitment to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Ghana.
“Over the last 22 years, I have worked hard with you for the NPP and for Ghana from during the Kufuor era as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, through our years in opposition and now in government.
“During this period, I have sacrificed for the party, I have defended the party in good times and in challenging times, I have never wavered nor slacked. Never! and I have built a solid track record of performance as Vice President with an unflinching loyalty to our party and government through rain or shine,” he added.
Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the Majority Chief Whip and one of the Vice President’s most ardent supporters, stated that it is now his time to take the reins.
He claimed that the Vice President is unbeatable and that we should therefore support him.
According to him, since politics is defined by times and seasons, now is the right time for Dr. Bawumia to serve as the NPP’s flagbearer and then as president.
The Nsawam Adoagyiri lawmaker claimed that 119 of the Majority Members of Parliament support Dr. Bawumia for the position of flagbearer in an interview with TV3’s Komla Kluste.
