A Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) immigration officer stationed at the Kasoa Command used his instincts to prevent what might have resulted in the attempted kidnapping of a young female student.

The officer, Assistant Immigration Control Officer (AICO II) Emmanuel Ofosu Acheampong, claimed that he saw a scene while traveling by public transportation (Trotro) from Nsawam to Dome along the Nsawam-Amasaman highway.

Three times he made an attempt to get inside the Camry with the registration number GR 3668-16 after seeing a young schoolgirl standing by it. She finally did, and the vehicle accelerated.

When he developed suspicions, he ordered the Trotro driver to pursue the Camry car. The Camry slowed down briefly because of some ongoing construction. After getting out, AICO II Acheampong told the Camry’s dreadlocked driver to park off the road.

The girl denied being the Camry driver’s niece when the driver and his companion claimed it during questioning.

The student at St. Stephens Senior High School in Akwatia claims that the man with the dreadlocks stole her contact information from a friend who shared a picture of her on WhatsApp. She claims the man called her and instructed her to meet him in Amasaman over the course of her midterm break.

A machete and a pump action gun with twenty (20) rounds of ammunition were found after the immigration officer searched the car.

One of the suspects snuck out of the crowd and fled while the Camry’s driver was being questioned.

The immigration officer escorted the suspect and the female student to the Amasaman Police Station for an investigation into the alleged kidnapping with the assistance of two bystanders.
