Schools in the Ketu South Constituency that have been impacted by flooding should be closed, according to Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the MP for that district.
Klikor, Agbozume, and Aflao are among the affected regions.
Due to the recent heavy rains, several communities have been flooded, making hundreds of residents homeless and in some cases forcing the closure of churches and schools.
The NDC MP made her first stop in the Viepe Electoral Area in Aflao, the Agbozume North and South Electoral Areas in Agbozume, and then she traveled to Dagbakope in the Kpoglu Electoral Area in Klikor, where she expressed sympathy for Samuel Dagba, whose home was destroyed by a large tree uprooted by the storm.
The MP stated during an interview with Citi FM in Accra on Monday, June 12, 2023, “I think what we should do is to close down the schools in the three traditional areas affected by the flooding. That is Klikor, Agbozume and Aflao. My fear is that anything can happen when these children are wading through the floodwaters. It is scary, I was born by the seaside, and my house is also at the beach, but I am terrified of water. What I saw this weekend has even scared me more.”
The Ketu South MP stated that the situation is so bad that people cannot even sleep in their rooms because the amount of water seen on the roads was the same as in their rooms.
She expressed sympathy for the affected citizens and urged the government, the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), and the Ketu South Municipal Assembly to support the communities in need and act now to find a long-term solution to the threat of recurrent flooding.
