Speaker swears-in Ernest Yaw Anim as the new Kumawu Member of Parliament (MP).

The newly-elected lawmaker was sworn in by Speaker of the House Alban Bagbin when Parliament resumed meeting today, Tuesday, June 6, 2023.

Cassiel Ato Forson of the minority and Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu of the majority, respectively, welcomed the new Kumawu lawmaker to the house.

Mr Yaw Anim polled 15,264 votes to defeat the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Kwesi Amankwah, and the two other Independent Candidates.

Kwesi Amankwah of the NDC received 3,723 votes, compared to Kwaku Duah (1)’s 2,478 votes and the other Kwaku Duah’s 62 votes.

In a related news, prior to the Assin North by-election, Sammy Gyamfi, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) communications officer, expressed hope for the party.

In the upcoming election, he predicted that Assin North voters will support James Gyakye Quayson, a candidate for the NDC in parliament, and justice.

The NDC Communication Officer expressed his confidence that the NDC candidate will win the by-election in a statement on the full Supreme Court decision, which was released on Monday, June 5, 2023.

“As a discerning and objective Ghanaian, judge for yourself if the Supreme Court’s decision to annul Hon. Quayson’s election is fair or not.

“In all this, I am glad that the good people of Assin North in whom sovereignty resides, will have the opportunity to do JUSTICE in this matter once and for all, on 27th June, 2023. I have no doubt in my mind, having been on the ground and interacted with many of them the past few days, that they will not falter. And that, they will vote for Hon. James Gyakye Quayson. I have no doubt in my mind, that they will vote for JUSTICE AND GENUINE DEVELOPMENT,” he stated.
