Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president, has expressed confidence in his efforts to make history for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the general elections of 2024.
He declared that he would lead the party to victory in the 2024 elections, making history as the only political party to do so during the Fourth Republic.
Speaking to NPP supporters in Hohoe, Dr. Bawumia declared he would run in and win the flagbearership primary.
“I want you to know that I appreciate your support. We are going to break the 8. First of all, we are going to file for the flagbearership which I’m going to do, win the flagbearership, break the 8, and go to Jubilee House. That is what I’m going to do,” he said.
On May 26, a group referred to as the “Bawumia Fan Club” acquired the presidential nomination papers for the vice president.
In order to help the NPP break the 8 and maintain control in the 2024 elections, the group headed by its founder, Ntim Jakari, claimed that Dr. Bawumia deserves to be chosen as its leader. The organization then paid the GH50,000 nomination fee on the candidate’s behalf.
The vice president also disclosed that the government intends to give senior high school students laptops in place of textbooks while he was in the Volta Region.
Textbooks and other educational resources will be installed on the laptops for use in the classroom, according to Dr. Bawumia.
He added that the initiative would be put into action by the end of 2023.
“If this country must move forward in the right direction, we must invest in education which is the only platform for preparing nation builders for tomorrow.
“The Minister for Education has also assured me that this year, we’ll start the replacement textbooks with laptops that have textbooks embedded in Senior high Schools,”
According to the Ghana Education Service, 80% of the laptops intended for teachers had been distributed as of December 11, 2021. The program was designed to provide Senior High School teachers with contemporary materials to facilitate teaching and learning.
