Following a 5-1 thrashing of Hears of Oak on Sunday afternoon at the Accra Sports Stadium, Medeama SC surpassed Hears of Oak to take the top spot in the Ghana Premier League standings.

Following Aduana’s blunder on Saturday, the Yellow and Mauves, who narrowly lost in the previous match, were in position to earn all three points and shoot up the table.

Derrick Fordjour gave the visitors the lead in the 17th minute with a powerful shot from just outside the penalty area that bounced before finding the back of the net. However, the Phobians quickly equalized thanks to Ibrahim Salifu’s spot-kick.

However, Medeama SC would score two more goals before halftime to secure a comfortable lead, thanks to Jonathan Sowah’s fourth goal in three games and penalty kick specialist Vincent Atingah’s successful conversion from six yards.

Hearts made several attempts to reduce the deficit, but were unsuccessful as Sowah added a second goal in the 85th minute to dash the Phobians’ hopes.

The Tarkwa-based team recorded their biggest win of the season thanks to a strong finish from Kwasi Donsu, who solidified the victory.

With 53 points, Medeama SC will now hold the top spot for the first time this season while Aduana drops to second place with one fewer point as a result of the outcome.

Bechem United maintains its third-place position with 51 points with three matches to end the season.

In other matches, Bibiani Gold Stars defeated Tamale City by a score of 2-0, and Dreams FC defeated Berekum Chelsea by the same margin.

Karela were held to a scoreless draw at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park, and King Faisal’s problems were made worse when they lost to Samartex at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex.

In other news, Yvette Tetteh, a Ghanaian-British activist and athlete, became the first person to swim across the Volta River, making history in the process.

The entrepreneur in the agricultural sector began her 450-kilometer swim from Buipe to Ada.

It might take years before anyone beats this record for the longest swim ever recorded in Ghana.
