Eighty-two (82) Ghana Police Service officers have filed a lawsuit against the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for delaying their promotions.
The Police Service, in the opinion of the disgruntled officers, made an unfair decision not to promote them.
According to the police officers, the study leave with pay policy of the service entitles them to promotions after their studies are finished, but even several months after finishing their studies, they have not yet received a promotion.
“All the Plaintiffs applied for the 2017/2018 Academic Year Study Leave with pay programme for Tertiary Courses ranging between two (2) to four (4) years.
“Each and every Plaintiff having qualified were selected and made to enter into the requisite Bond to serve the Police Service upon completion of their various courses for at least Five (5) years upon condition that the Bond would be entreated when breached.”
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo recently praised the IGP’s impact on the police force.
He said, “We’re all witnessing the transformation of the Ghana police service under our very eyes. We see the discipline that has been restored to our roads, the enhanced Police visibility, and general discipline in society under the leadership of the IGP Dr. Akuffo Dampare.“
“I want to assure him that he has my full support and the support of my government to continue his transformation of the police service,“ he noted.
He asserts that the government’s commitment to giving the Police Service the equipment it needs to carry out its mandate of upholding law and order and safeguarding people’s lives and property is further demonstrated by the delivery of the bikes.

In other news, commercial drivers are angry over the recent 10% reduction in transport fares following the decrease in fuel prices.
According to them, it doesn’t make sense for government to order them to reduce transport fares without first reducing the heavy taxes imposed on insurances and spare parts.
