President Nana Akufo-Addo is expected to announce a significant reorganization of his cabinet that will see the introduction of a mix of familiar faces from his first term and some new faces made up of strong stalwarts of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to reliable sources, KT Hammond and Dr. Stephen Amoah will be joining the Akufo-Addo government for the first time as Minister of State in charge of Trade and Industry and Finance, respectively, while Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister of Education, has reportedly been given the boot.
In addition, Palgrave Boakye Danquah, is expected to join the Information Ministry as a deputy minister, and Byran Acheampong, who has been a candidate for the next Agriculture Minister, are two other newcomers to the administration.
According to our information, Transport Minister Kwaku Ofori Asiamah also won’t be resuming his duties. As to whether he will be transferred or entirely removed is not yet apparent.
Anger with NPP General Secretary in Jubilee House
Other reports from Jubilee House suggest the President and government is displeased by recent remarks made by party General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua that seeks to pre-empt the impending reshuffle.
Mr. Kodua at a party forum days ago disclosed that the party is undertaking an assessment of all Akufo-Addo’s appointees, after which it will “force” the President to reshuffle the non-performing ones.
“The NPP worked so hard in 2016 for us to win the elections and, therefore, will also work so hard to win in 2024. But at this point, if ministers, CEOs (Chief Executive Officers), or MCEs (Municipal Chief Executives) are not reshuffled for poor performance, we will reshuffle them ourselves…. the national party, I must tell you on our own, is doing an evaluation assessment of government appointees. And once we are done with the assessment evaluation, we shall discuss it with His Excellency, the President.” JFK said.
