Despite the category’s cancellation that year, Stonebwoy feels he won the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards for Artiste of the Year.
On stage during the awards show that year, Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale got into a fight.
The incident caused a one-hour delay in the award ceremony. The organizers decided not to reveal the winner for the Artiste of the Year category that evening in order to control the chaos caused by the rivalry between the two acts.
The president of BHIM Nation, who was up for Artiste of the Year at the 2023 VGMAs, spoke about the tragic incident 3 years after it happened in an interview with TV3 New Day. He recognized his previous accomplishments.
“Not to forget that I’ve been here before, I won AOTY in 2015 and went on to win the BET Awards and I think that I won it in 2019 and maybe one day they are going to hand it over because there was a win,” Stonebwoy stated.
Returning to the award system, Stonebwoy received a nomination for Artist of the Year. He was defeated by Black Sherif, though. e was a win,” Stonebwoy stated.
In light of this, he commended Black Sherif for his diligence and showmanship during the awards.
“Shoutout to Blacko, I was chilling with Blacko right there, whoever arranged it, made us sit together, I was chilling with him,” he noted “Congratulations to everyone who won from King Promise to Epixode, trust me I really enjoyed myself.
Stonebwoy apologized for his actions in 2019 and thanked the organizers and Charterhouse for their hard work.
“If they give me the award, I’ll definitely take it. Shoutout to Madam Theresa and Eniola, I personally respect them very much and I know they understand how much I respect Ghana music and definitely, it’s like our Grammys, wherever I go I speak about it, I hold no malice against them,” he added.
