At Faanaa-Bortianor in the Greater Accra Region, a boat carrying school children reportedly capsized, killing nine (9) of them.

On Wednesday in the late afternoon, the school children are reported to have drowned on their way home from school.

Nine pupils were killed in the incident, which involved a total of twelve people, including the boat owner.

According to a report by Accra-based Joy FM, the boat owner is currently being held by police and helping with inquiries.

The deceased have been transported to the Accra mortuary of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in the interim.

The parents of the victims have also been asked to assist the police in locating their relatives.

In a related news, after a church structure collapsed at Old Bortianor in the Greater Accra Region, seven (7) construction workers are reportedly in critical condition.

Earlier today, the Word In Action Church’s three-story auditorium in the Ga South Municipality collapsed.

The victims were reportedly engaged in a facility extension project when the disaster reportedly occurred.

Seven people who were working on an extension project for the auditorium reportedly heard an unusual noise, but the building collapsed as they tried to flee, according to some eyewitnesses.

All of the victims were initially taken to the Bortianor polyclinic, and one of them was later taken to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after suffering a critical injury.

“I can say that one of the injured persons is very hurt because the pillars really hit him hard. That is what I actually saw”, an eyewitness told CitiNews.

In order to determine whether there may be additional victims buried beneath the debris, representatives from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) have visited the scene of the incident.
