According to the former minister of education, there is no truth to reports that Professor Dominic Fobih is getting married for the ninth time.
After news broke that Professor Fobih had married his young lover over the weekend, the professor received media attention.
Additionally, there were numerous rumors spread on social media that his bride is a 27-year-old woman.
But the 80-year-old made it clear that his widely publicized wedding was his first attempt at marriage in an interview on Starr FM on Tuesday morning.
The former minister of education continued by saying that people who make comments about the “nine wives” story are obviously ignorant and misinformed.
“I don’t have nine wives, I have one wife, I just got married. I didn’t have a wife before so I’ve just got married. Who in Ghana has nine wives? If anybody is commenting on nine wives the person has been misled. Those who are commenting are commenting on what they’ve read and that is borne out of ignorance.”
On claims his wife is 27, but Professor Fobih clarified that she is a medical officer who is 31 years old.
He characterized himself as a determined individual who always does what is best for him.
“I’m a very strong willed person and I’m always convinced about what I decide to do and is best for me. I know why I’m doing this and so they can tell all sort of things. I didn’t marry for anybody, I married for myself,” Prof. Fobih added.
Meanwhile, the Krobo people, who perform the Dipo rites for their young ladies to usher them into adulthood, are one ethnic group that has been affected by this.
First and foremost, a woman must be a virgin and have never engaged in sexual activity with a man in order to be eligible for the dipo.
The ladies of Kroboland used to be extremely proud of this ritual, but according to some of the country’s elders, it is now difficult to recruit virgins to participate.
They claim that the number of virgins from Kroboland is decreasing every day and time, to the point where they were once unable to procure even a single woman from the Shai Osudoku District who were virgins.
