When he succeeds as Ghana’s president, the former leader has vowed to rename the capital’s Jubilee House building Flagstaff House.

Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, the Member of Parliament for Builsa South, relayed his intention to use his previous name again.

He continued by saying that Ghana will be led by John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from Flagstaff House rather than Jubilee House, and that Mahama will restore Ghana’s legitimate history.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and NDC have fought over the name of the building over the previous ten years depending on which party was in power.

Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president, renovated it in the 1960s so that it could be used as both his official residence and office, the moniker name was Flagstaff House at first.

The current presidential complex was given the name Jubilee House by the Kufuor administration because it was built in 2007 to mark Ghana’s 50th anniversary of independence.

Meanwhile, John Mahama has placed the blame for the recent controversy over a restroom dormitory at the Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) in Tamale on the government.

He claimed that the government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s neglected to invest in the infrastructure of senior high schools, which led to the current predicament.

Speaking to attendees at Nkwanta in the Oti Region, John Mahama claims that some schools have difficulties with feeding their students.

“The students are unable to get a decent place to sleep when they go to school because the government has refused to continue most of the infrastructure including dormitories which were under construction before we left office. This situation poses a challenge to the educational sector. Most of the students also go hungry while in school. Headmasters are prevented from intervening. We will change the situation in our next government,” Mr. Mahama said.
