I’ve Been Blessed To Occupied Every Possible Office In Ghana – John Mahama

John Dramani Mahama, a former president, reflected on his life’s blessings and related them to his political journey from an assemblyman to holding the office of president.

John Mahama used his own political journey as an example of how a politician navigates life while running the risk of being ensnared by power while giving a sermon as an invited guest at a Holy Hill church service on Easter Sunday in Accra.

“God has blessed me, He has guided my steps. Any possible office in the politics of this country, I have occupied. I have been a deputy minister, I have been a minister, I have been a Member of Parliament for three terms, I have been a vice president.

“And ultimately I have been the president of the republic of Ghana,” he added before stressing home how the trappings of office confers a sense of immortality on politicians.

“What it does is that it gives you a sense of immortality. If you are used to the trappings of office, you will think that you will never step out of that office.

“And so, for me; what I say to Christian politicians is let’s take Christ-like features into the work we do as politicians,” he is heard saying in a video shared on his Facebook timeline.

Mahama’s father served in the Nkrumah government during the early years of Ghana’s independence, so his political roots go back even further.

He is regarded as one of the most thoroughbred politicians of the Fourth Republic, having served at the local level (Assembly) before being elected as the NDC’s representative for Bole Bamboi.

Prior to rising to become John Mills’ vice president and then president when Mills left office, John Mahama held ministerial and deputy ministerial positions under the Rawlings administration. In 2012, he was elected to his first full term.

He will likely win the election for NDC flagbearer ahead of the 2024 elections against three other candidates as he seeks a third term in office after losing two straight elections to President Nana Akufo-Addo in 2016 and 2020.
