The vetting of candidates for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency has been postponed indefinitely by the Greater Accra Vetting Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
This choice has not been justified.
Jerry Johnson, the party’s greater Accra region communications officer, stated that by the end of Wednesday, April 5, all other candidates in each constituency will have been screened.
Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency Committee members stated that they were awaiting instructions from the National Executive Committee (NEC) on their next course of action.
The candidates for the May 13 primary elections for that Constituency are Moses Barfi Acheampong, Fred Nuamah, and Jonn Dumelo, who carried the party’s banner in 2020.
The three chosen nomination forms when they became available in February.
Following the nationwide vetting that started on Monday, April 3, 2023, some candidates who chose nomination forms have already been disqualified.
Those who were disqualified have been asked to appeal the rulings if they would like to.
Relatively, Francis Xavier Sosu, an MP for Madina, will run unopposed in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries on May 13.
This comes after Prince Moses Zakaria, his lone opponent, was disqualified following his examination on Monday, April 3.
He was reportedly disqualified due to the fact that he served as the United Front Party’s (UFP) former general secretary.
The renowned human rights attorney thanked God for giving him another chance to represent the people of Madina in Parliament after passing his vetting.
The resentful candidate, however, has declared his intention to run as an independent after charging the screening committee with bias.
The seat was previously held by Bonfiace Abubabakr Siddique of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), a first-time member of parliament.
Meanwhile, NDC in the Central Region will began screening 56 candidates for parliamentary office who successfully bought and filed their nomination forms.
The 56 candidates for the 13th May general election in 20 of the region’s 23 constituencies are prepared.
