President Nana Akufo-Addo has been urged to follow in the footsteps of his predecessors by stating his position emphatically, according to Samuel Narteh George, a leading sponsor of the anti-LGBTQI bill.

The President’s ambivalent stance on the subject of LGBTQI-related issues in Ghana concerns Ningo Prampram, a legislator.

“All former Presidents made their positions clear on this (LGBTQI) which has the potential to destroy our culture and values but why is President Nana Addo not being clear on his position?” Sam George queried.

Sam George, speaking to the press in Parliament, said the President’s vehemence will inspire Ghanaians even more and will give the world a clear indication of Ghana’s position.

He recalled how late former president Atta Mills made his position known by rejecting it and arbitrating disputes regarding the controversy during his administration.

The MP was hoping that the President would sign the bill into law after it was approved by Parliament.

In an exclusive interview with Adom Parliamentary Correspondent Ohene Amponsah, Chairman of the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee Kwame Anyimadu Antwi promised that the bill would be laid soon and that everything was in place for the House to pass it.

Seven members of parliament—Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, MP for Assin South, and the Lone Ranger from the Majority Caucus—are supporting the legislation.
