The Ghana Police Service has announced that persons with any credible information that can assist in investigations into the alleged sexual assault of a 16-year-old footballer should contact the Homicide Unit at the CID Headquarters or the nearest Police Station with the said information.

The alleged victim of the sexual abuse, Ransford Owusu, a young footballer had fallen ill and died on 28th February, this year and his mother, Ama Asantewaa told the Police the boy, before his death, had confided in her that his coach, Anyass Ibrahim, had sexually abused him.

Anyass Ibrahim is a coach at Siano Soccer Academy in Accra where Ransford Owusu was a footballer before he fell ill.

According to a press release issued by the Ghana Police Service, the suspect, Anyass Ibrahim, was arrested on November 4, 2025, to assist the investigation.

The Police statement said Anyass Ibrahim was interrogated, his statement was taken and later granted bail to be reporting at the CID Headquarters.

“A review of the medical reports so far submitted by the deceased’s mother from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and the Maternal and Child Health Hospital (Children’s Hospital), Kumasi suggest that the deceased was treated for liver and kidney related conditions.

“Efforts are ongoing by the Police to obtain the deceased’s medical report from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and the Maternal and Child Health Hospital (Children’s Hospital), Kumasi, for confirmation since both facilities had provided medical care to the deceased prior to his demise. Accordingly, a court order has been secured to be served on both hospitals since earlier formal requests for the reports had been declined”, the statement revealed.

It said following a viral video involving suspect Ibrahim and a minor in a compromising situation, Police have extended investigations into the matter.

On the same matter, the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has said it would ensure that through investigations get done to ascertain the facts of the matter and justice duly served if anyone is found to have committed an offence.

“The Ministry emphasizes that crime has no expiration and therefore remains committed to pursuing justice for the victim and his family.”

The Ministry explained that since assuming office in February 2025, the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection had engaged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to strengthen accountability and child protection mechanisms within the football sector.

“Following this engagement, the Siano Soccer Academy, in addition to suspending the coach, temporarily closed the facility pending investigations,” (MoGCSP) noted in a statement.

It noted further: “We urge the public to remain vigilant and report all suspected cases of child abuse and violence through the Domestic Violence call centre on 0800-111-222 or at the nearest Social Welfare or DOVVSU office.”
