POLICE INSPECTOR, Ahmed Twumasi, aka ‘Tacuum’, will spend the rest of his life in jail as a Court of competent jurisdiction has found him guilty of murdering his girlfriend, Victoria Dapaah aka ‘Maa Adwoa’.
Inspector Twumasi was arrested in May 2023, after he was accused of shooting 26-year-old Victoria Dapaah, multiple times in the abdomen and chest on April 20, 2023, at about 9:50 p.m.
The law enforcement officer now turned crime suspect was arrested after a specialized police operation smoked him out of his hideout at Sekyere near Effiduase in the Ashanti region.
Last Friday October 24, 2025, the High Court in Kumasi, presided over by Justice Rosemond Baah-Tosu, after two-and-half years of sitting on the case, eventually delivered the final judgment which found him guilty of murder.
Reading the sentencing, the court announced that a seven-member jury, have found the beleaguered police inspector, Ahmed Twumasi, who was apprehended in April 2023, guilty of murder after voting on a 5-2 majority verdict.
Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, who looked a bit jittery whilst standing in the dock throughout the court proceedings, would therefore have to spend the rest of his lifetime on earth in the penitentiary.
Facts of the case
Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, who was serving as a police officer in Kumasi, became headline news for bad reasons in April 2023 after it emerged that he had strangely shot his fiancée, Maa Adwoa, 26, dead.
According to reports, Inspector Ahmed Twumasi and Maa Adwoa, who is 26 years-old, are lovers. They, however, had a slight misunderstanding over an amount of Gh 5,000 on the evening of April 20, 2023.
The lovebirds were said to be standing few meters away from Maa Adwoa’s house at Adum in Kumasi on that fateful day, when Inspector Ahmed Twumasi shot her at close range to bizarrely end her life.
On his maiden appearance in court, Inspector Ahmed Twumasi reportedly admitted to shooting Maa Adwoa with an explanation that he had no intentions of ending her life in that weird manner.
However, Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, during another appearance in court, pleaded not guilty. This twist of events therefore led to the full trial of the case after which the jury gave their verdict.
Fake News of Death
In the middle of the trial, while Inspector Twumasi was being kept under lock and key, news went viral on social media that he had died in prison.
Authorities at the Kumasi Central Prisons granted, soon after that viral social media report, told Luv FM’s Ohemeng Tawiah the suspect was not dead and even gave the journalist access to the cells of the remanded police officer.
Spotting a white T-Shirt over a pair of khaki shorts, he responded to questions from prison officers and said he was hail and hearty.
Inspector Ahmed Twumasi told the officers that he was also privy to the rumours of his death.
Public Relations Officer of the Kumasi Central Prisons, Superintendent Richard Bukari in an interview with Joynews described rumours of Twumasi’s death as unfortunate.
“I emphatically say it is not true. Ahmed Twumasi is hail and hearty in custody. Nothing has happened to him and I promise nothing will happen to him. Looking at him, he’s not even sick and I wonder under what circumstances Twumasi would be declared dead,” Public Relations Officer of the Kumasi Central Prisons, Superintendent Richard Bukari told Joy News when the death rumors went viral.
Superintendent Bukari continued: “Taking note that he’s a state property, we would not do anything that would compromise his health, his security and his well-being in the prisons. So I say on authority that Twumasi is not dead; he is alive, healthy and undergoing his trial processes”.
