The Ghana Police Service has successfully stopped a planned robbery in Accra following a special intelligence-led operation, resulting in the killing of two suspects, while the other three are still on the run.

According to a statement posted on the Ghana Police Service’s official Facebook page on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, the operation was carried out by the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) on Monday, July 15, 2025.

The police acted on credible tip-off that five armed men were hiding at a hotel in Labadi and planning to rob a foreign national in the Cantonments area.

“The Ghana Police Service has foiled a planned robbery in Accra following an intelligence-led operation by the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) Headquarters in Accra.

The intelligence-led operation, carried out on Monday, 15th July 2025, followed credible intelligence that five armed men were lodging at a hotel in Labadi and planning to rob a foreign national at Cantonments,” the police wrote.

The suspects, who were moving in a Toyota Yaris, noticed they were being monitored by the police. In an attempt to escape, they opened fire on the officers, injuring one of them. The police returned fire, injuring two suspects. The injured suspects were taken to the Police Hospital but were later confirmed dead.

The injured officer suffered gunshot wounds to his legs and underarm and is currently receiving treatment. The police report indicates he is responding well to medical care.

At the scene, the police retrieved two pump-action guns fully loaded with ammunition, live cartridges, three mobile phones, talismans, and other items believed to belong to the suspects.

Three other suspects managed to escape during the shootout. A manhunt is currently underway to find and arrest them.

“A manhunt is underway to arrest the remaining three suspects currently on the run,” they declared.

The Ghana Police Service praised the intelligence team for their swift response and assured the public that efforts are ongoing to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
