The Minority Caucus in Parliament has held a strategy meeting to agree on a work plan for the Second Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic, which resumes tomorrow, Tuesday May 27, 2025.
The strategy meeting, held at the Accra City on Sunday May 25, was summoned by the Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for the Effutu Constituency, Osahen Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin,. It was attended by heads of committees in Parliament, chaired by members of the Minority Caucus.
“It is not everything we discussed that is meant for the public to know but all I can say is that we met as a caucus to strategize for the Second Meeting of Parliament. It is a meeting of committee leaders to plan and perfect our approach, and to ensure that the right things are done in our country,” the Minority Leader stated.
According to Afenyo-Markin, the meeting was not only a routine planning session but a deliberate effort to sharpen the caucus’ coordination ahead of what is expected to be a crucial session of Parliament.
He said the Minority intends to hold the government accountable, ensure transparency, and uphold the principles of democratic governance.
“We want the good of democracy, and we are sending a strong message to our opponents that we will hold their foot to the fire. At the same time, we are going to be a responsible opposition,” Mr. Afenyo-Markin said.
He reiterated the Minority’s commitment to democratic governance and assured the Ghanaian public of their resolve to play their constitutional role effectively in the House.
Touching on the broader vision of the caucus beyond Parliament, Mr Afenyo-Markin said the Minority is positioning itself as a credible alternative ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“We assure Ghanaians that we are ready to take the reins of government and power in 2028 to make Ghana better,” he further noted.
