The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect having two pump-action guns with 64 rounds of AA ammunitions, a cutlass, a knife, and an ammunition vest in his possession at Nsawam-Adoagyiri in the Eastern Region.

The suspect, identified as Abdul Rauf Salami, a resident of Adoagyiri Zongo, was picked up on the night of Thursday, May 23, 2025, at around 9:30pm.

The suspect was picked up following violent clashes between youth from the main township and members of the Zongo community in the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipality.

The conflict is believed to be a reprisal attack sparked by the death of a 35-year-old Okada rider, Masawudu Issaka.

According to a police statement signed by head of the Public Affairs Unit, ASP Foster Owusu, “exhibits retrieved from the suspect include two pump-action guns with 64 rounds of AA ammunitions, a cutlass, a knife, and an ammunition vest. The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations and is expected to be arraigned before the court to face justice.”

The statement further added, “The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition at Nsawam-Adoagyiri in the Eastern Region. The suspect, Abdul Rauf Salami, a native of Adoagyiri Zongo was arrested on 23rd May 2025 at 9.30pm during intensified police operations which targeted all points of entry and exit of Adoagyiri. The operations were part of a broader response to the recent disturbances in the township.”

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has waded into the matter, meeting with traditional leaders in Adoagyiri and pledging his support to ensure justice for the bereaved family.

“I will raise this issue in Parliament and make sure that the culprits are dealt with by the law. I am pleading that I will help the victims with the small amount that I will get to help with their revival,” the MP assured.

Hon. Annoh-Dompreh also pledged to seek justice for the late Issaka through official channels, vowing to raise the matter on the floor of Parliament when the House reconvenes.

Beyond justice, the MP emphasized the need for long-term peacebuilding and unity within Adoagyiri, citing the area’s history of communal tension.

He further called on the police and relevant security agencies to intensify investigations and provide the community with regular updates to rebuild trust and confidence in the system.
