In a disturbing turn of events in Spintex, Accra, a young man identified as Rahman Zakaria narrowly escaped death after being allegedly caught with his gay partner, Isaac Adu.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, has sparked outrage and concern over the safety and rights of LGBTQ+ individuals in Ghana.

Homosexuality is abhorred and frowned upon in a strict christian/islamic-dominated community, with dire consequences for offenders.

According to eyewitness accounts, Rahman Zakaria was discovered by his landlady, Madam Mary Yeboah, in what she described as an “unholy act” with his partner.

Shocked and angered, she quickly raised an alarm, attracting a crowd of furious residents and youth in the neighborhood.

The situation escalated rapidly as the two young men were dragged out of the house and subjected to beatings, insults, and threats of lynching.

One witness claimed that some members of the mob attempted to set the victims on fire, but a few bystanders intervened to stop the act.

Security forces reportedly arrived at the scene but allegedly joined in abusing the two men instead of rescuing them.

In a dramatic twist, Rahman Zakaria was whisked away by unidentified individuals under military escort, with some reports suggesting he was forced to leave the area for his own safety. His current whereabouts remain unknown, raising fears about his condition and future.

The incident has once again brought attention to the dangers faced by individuals accused of being part of the LGBTQ+ community in Ghana, where same-sex relationships are still considered taboo and are criminalized by law.

Many are calling for an urgent review of Ghana’s stance on LGBTQ+ rights and greater protection for marginalized individuals. Human rights groups have yet to release an official statement, but the public outcry continues to grow on social media.

Rahman Zakaria whose whereabouts are unknown, would be severely dealt with if caught or identified within his area. For fear of being victimized, he may never come back to his own community again.
