The Ghana Education Service (GES) has referred the dismissal of the 8 Chiana Senior High School students in the Upper East Region, for insulting the president of the land to the School’s Disciplinary Committee following a swift intervention by President Akufo-Addo.
The students had initially been suspended before being expelled on Thursday by GES.
GES in a release signed by the Head of Public Relations Unit, Cassandra Twum Ampofo stated that the School’s Disciplinary Committee is expected to explore alternative sanctions for the students.
“The affected students were dismissed based on a recommendation from the School’s Disciplinary Committee. Thus, Management has referred the matter to the School’s Disciplinary Committee to explore alternative sanctions other than dismissal,” part of the release reads.
It would be recalled that GES on Thursday dismissed eight students of the Chiana Senior High School in the Upper East Region for insulting President Akufo-Addo.
In the meantime, the affected students are to report to the Headmistress of the School for further directions, according to GES.
Prior to the dismissal, the students had been on suspension.
The GES says its investigation into the incident confirmed that the students used unsavoury language and unrefined words against the President.
However, the students in question have apologized to the president and the public for their misconduct and appealed for the reversal of their dismissal.
In a quick reaction the spokesperson of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Yaw Opoku Mensah has been cautioning that students avoid any activity which may lead to an interruption in their education and to rather take lessons from the actions taken against the students for their misconduct.
The said viral video surfaced online in November last year in which the students were captured insulting President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo while expressing frustration over the severe hardship prevailing in the country.
