A building collapse at Asempa down in Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region has claimed the lives of three constructors who were diligently working on a new structure.

The tragedy is said to had happened late Saturday afternoon on the outskirts of the bustling town, sending shockwaves through the community and leaving families in mourning.

Eyewitnesses recount the harrowing scene as the building, still under construction, suddenly crumbled with a deafening roar.

Rescue teams, along with local residents, rushed to the scene in a desperate bid to save those trapped under the rubble. Despite their best efforts, three constructors were confirmed dead later.

One of the victims who survived, said a carpenter died on the spot while the others died when they were evacuated to the hospital.

According to further report, the workers were filling concrete for the first floor of the storey building when the entire building collapsed.

The exact cause of the collapse remains under investigation. Preliminary reports suggest that structural deficiencies might have contributed to the disaster.

Patrick Sarfo, a worker on site who survived narrating the incident said, “I was standing by the machine surfing those working on the building. When I noticed that the building was gradually coming down, I pushed one of my brothers closer to me aside and I also managed to jump.”

“I noticed that the building was not strong from the foundation, so I prompted the boys to work on the building that the foundation was not strong. Passers-by helped us remove the people from the rubble.”

    Kasoa New Market On Fire

In another unfortunate development, an early Sunday morning fire at the Kasoa New Market destroyed multiple buildings, including several stores.

The entire area was consumed by the fire, despite the fact that portion of the market has no connection with the national grid.

The fire is said to have sparked due to human activity. Several market vendors who lost everything in the fire revealed in an interview with Citi News that, they are heartbroken.

“I was in the house when I had a call that my shop was on fire. The entire space was up in flames when I got to the scene. I have lost all my belongings in the fire and I wonder how I will get money to start a new business,” Akosua Agyeiwaa, a devastated market woman said.

Officials of the Ghana National Fire Service were at the scene to ensure the fire is controlled.

“We had information about 08: 28 hours of a fire outbreak. When they got here the fire had reached its growth stage. My men did very well because if you look at the combustible nature of the fire it would take a longer time to douse the fire but my men managed to bring the fire under control.

“We have also warned the market women not to cook in the market or do anything related to naked fire. Fire will not occur unless there is a source of heat. We have begun our investigation into the matter,” Assistant Chief Fire Officer Grade II Kofi Forson said
