Delta airlines Palestinian flag Controversy: Pictures Of Two employees wearing Pins On X
Delta Airlines recently found itself at the center of a social media storm following a controversy involving two of its employees wearing Palestinian flag pins. The incident, which quickly went viral, has sparked a heated debate about representation, discrimination, and corporate policies.
The Incident
The controversy began when a user on X (formerly Twitter) posted images of two Delta flight attendants wearing Palestinian flag pins on their uniforms. The post suggested that the pins were “Hamas badges,” which led to a wave of backlash and concern from other users. The original post read: “Since 2001 we take our shoes off in every airport because of a terrorist attack on US soil. Now imagine getting into a @Delta flight and seeing workers with Hamas badges in the air. What do you do?”.
Delta’s Response
Delta Airlines initially responded to the post by expressing sympathy with the user’s concerns, stating: “I hear you as I’d be terrified as well, personally. Our employees reflect our culture and we do not take it lightly when our policy is not being followed”. This response was met with significant backlash, as many users pointed out that the pins were not “Hamas badges”. But rather the Palestinian flag, which represents the Palestinian people.
Apology and Policy Change
Following the backlash, Delta deleted the initial response and issued an apology. Also stating that the comment was “mistakenly posted” and “not in line with our values and our mission to connect the world”. The airline also announced a change in its uniform policy. This new policy aims to “ensure a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for all”.
Reactions and Impact
The incident has sparked a broader conversation about representation and discrimination. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) criticized Delta’s initial response. Also calling it “racist anti-Palestinian” and demanding an apology and better education for Delta employees. Delta has since clarified that the photographed flight attendants were compliant with the company’s uniform guidelines. And that they have been in touch with the employees to offer support.
