Clive Tyldesley’s journey in sports broadcasting began with humble roots. As a teaboy at Nottingham’s Radio Trent in 1975, he also immersed himself in the world of football. His early experiences covering Brian Clough’s Nottingham Forest ignited his passion for commentary and storytelling. In 1977, Tyldesley joined Radio City in Liverpool, where he eventually became Head of Sport.
His coverage extended beyond matches, as he reported live on the Heysel Stadium disaster before the 1985 European Cup final. Chronicling Everton’s successes in the mid-1980s and extensively covering the aftermath of the Hillsborough disaster showcased his commitment to responsible journalism. From 1998 until 2020, Tyldesley served as ITV’s senior football commentator.
