Steven Stamkos was born on February 7, 1990, in Markham, Ontario, Canada. Stamkos played for the Sarnia Sting in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). In the 2007-2008 season, he exploded onto the scene, scoring 58 goals and recording 47 assists for a staggering 105 points in just 61 games. His performance earned him the Red Tilson Trophy as the OHL’s Most Outstanding Player.

In the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, the Tampa Bay Lightning selected Stamkos as the first overall pick.
