Michael Alex Conley Jr. was born on October 11, 1987, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, United States . His father, Mike Conley Sr., was also an accomplished athlete, having won a gold medal in the triple jump at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Growing up in a sports-oriented family, young Mike developed a passion for basketball early on. Conley attended Ohio State University, where he played college basketball for the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Alongside fellow future NBA star Greg Oden, Conley helped lead the Buckeyes to the NCAA Championship Game in 2007. His exceptional point guard skills and court vision caught the attention of NBA scouts. In the 2007 NBA Draft, the Memphis Grizzlies selected Mike Conley as the 4th overall pick. He quickly established himself as a reliable playmaker and defensive stalwart for the Grizzlies. Conley’s tenure with the Grizzlies spanned over a decade, during which he became the franchise’s all-time leader in several statistical categories. Conley earned his first All-Star selection in 2021 while playing for the Utah Jazz. He was named to the All-Defensive Second Team in 2013. Conley holds the record for winning this award four times (in 2014, 2016, 2019, and 2023).
