    University of Ghana Sports Stadium to Host WAFU B U-17 Tournament

    UG Sports Stadium and Ancillary Facilities Commissioned to Host 13th  African Games | University of Ghana

    The University of Ghana (UG) Sports Stadium has been selected as the sole venue to stage the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B Under 17 Boys Football Tournament, slated for May 15 to May 29, 2024. This prestigious tournament serves as the gateway to the 2024 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, also attracting fervent attention from football enthusiasts throughout the region.

    Tournament Overview:

      • The WAFU Zone B U-17 tournament serves as the qualifying pathway for the 2024 TotalEnergies U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.

    Participating Teams

    Seven West African countries will be participating in this year’s tournament. The Black Starlets of Ghana are in Group A, alongside La Côte d’Ivoire and also Benin. Meanwhile, Group B features Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Niger, and Togo.

    Preparations and Training Pitches

    After successfully participating in the UEFA U-16 tournament held in Russia as a means of nurturing and developing talents for the future, the Black Starlets have touched down in Ghana to begin preparations for the WAFU Zone B U17 tournament. Four training pitches have also been designated for the teams to ready themselves for their matches. These comprise the Athletics Oval field, the Mensah Sarbah field, and the Union Ghana soccer field, all situated within the premises of the University of Ghana.

    Qualification:

    The competition serves as the avenue for teams to qualify for the 2024 TotalEnergies U17 Africa Cup of Nations.

    Previous Hosting: The University of Ghana Sports Stadium successfully hosted two matches during the African Games Men’s football tournament in March
