- Born on August 17, 1966, in Bedford–Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York City, Mister Cee learned the art of DJing from a crew called DJ Knight and the Knights of Hollywood.
- During high school, he crossed paths with the renowned rapper Big Daddy Kane.
- His journey as a DJ took off in the late 1980s when he began deejaying for Kane. He also even featured on the track “Mister Cee’s Master Plan” from Kane’s debut album, Long Live the Kane (1988).

- In the early 1990s, Mister Cee gained popularity as a radio DJ, introducing the music of rising artists.
- His radio shows, Throwback at Noon and Friday Night Live, also aired respectively on New York radio stations Hot97 and WBLS.
- It was during this time that he discovered the iconic rapper The Notorious B.I.G. (Biggie Smalls) after meeting him through his DJ, 50 Grand.
