SOME RESIDENTS of Ejisu, in the Ashanti Region, reportedly, had to run for cover after eight huge high tension towers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), started to collapse.
According to eyewitnesses reports, the people who saw the towers collapsing to the grounds on Tuesday, perhaps thought that the world was coming to an end, so they took to their heels, filled with fright.
The people later came back to themselves as they realized that the towers, which is from Anwomaso BSP to Akyawkrom Substation, Ejisu, have been brought down due to the illegal activities of some bolts and nuts thieves.
This portal gathered from eyewitnesses that the bolts and nuts, which supported the huge towers to stand firmly on the grounds, have been infamously removed away by some unknown thieves.
The sudden collapse of the towers has plunged areas such as Bekwai, Awiankwanta, Kumawu, Antoakrom, Manso Nkwanta, Jacobu Samfo-Aduam, Ejisu, Onwe, Besease, Asotwe, Abankro and Baworo into darkness.
Meanwhile, the sad and unfortunate incident, according to reports, has been reported to the National Security officials in the Ashanti Region to quickly investigate the matter properly and arrest those behind the theft.
Checks made by the online portal on Tuesday indicated that the security personnel have started asking questions and talking to people in Ejisu to help figure out those who caused the towers to collapse suddenly.
No arrest had been made yet by the close of Tuesday but some insiders in the National Security and other security agencies in the region, assured the paper that they would bring the perpetrators to book soon.
